The Blanchester seventh grade girls basketball team was defeated by Goshen 26-17 Monday night.

Zoie Stanforth had eight points to lead the way for the young Ladycats, who fell behind early largely because of foul trouble, coach Bella Cook said.

“I am very proud of how the girls bounced back from a rough beginning,” Cook said. “Many of them stepped up for the team after our two point guards found themselves in foul trouble. The Warriors got ahead of us in the second quarter, however we never gave up. All 11 girls stepped on the court and gave 100 percent. I believe our team learned a lot from this game. As a previous player, I know that is worth much more than a win.”

Rianna Muller added four points while Emma Winemiller had three and Taylor Combs chipped in two.

Several of the Blanchester players had offensive rebounds including Stanforth, Combs, Daelyn Staehling and Aleah Wells each with two. Mueller, Winemiller and Maddie Creager added one. Creager also had an assist.

Staehling led the team defensively with five blocks and two rebounds. Closely following her was Creager with four defensive rebounds and two steals. Combs had three defensive rebounds and a block. Wells had two defensive rebounds and a steal. Winemiller had a defensive rebound and a steal. Stanforth had a steal and a block.
