BLANCHESTER — Outscored 33-20 in the second half, the Blanchester girls basketball team dropped a non-conference game Monday to Norwood 42-40 at the BHS gym.

Blanchester drops to 9-6 on the year. Norwood also is 9-6.

Regan Ostermeier led Blanchester with 13 points and hit 3 of 4 free throws.

As a team, Blanchester was 6 for 18 at the line. Norwood, despite trailing most of the game, was 14 for 28 at the line.

“This is a hard one to swallow,” BHS coach Bennie Carroll said. “We just shot ourselves in the foot on all sides.”

Blanchester was up 2 with 17 seconds to play, Carroll said, but missed a free throw and had a turnover as Norwood took the lead. The Ladycats had a good look at a 3-pointer to win it as time expired but came up short, Carroll said.

In the first half, Blanchester was cruising along with a 20-9 halftime lead.

“We played well defensively but we missed a lot of shots we should have hit,” said Carroll. “We could have easily been up 16.”

Blanchester didn’t help its effort at the line in the fourth quarter, hitting just 3 of 9.
