Bellbrook beats Blanchester 66-14 in tourney lidlifter

LEBANON — After watching top-seeded Alter win its opener impressively, Bellbrook was equally impressive in the tournament nightcap Wednesday at Lebanon High School.

Bellbrook engineered a 42-5 run on the way to a 66-13 victory over Blanchester in a Div. II sectional matchup.

Blanchester finishes its season at 12-11. Bellbrook is now 20-3.

“We came out with a good attitude,” BHS head coach Bennie Carroll said. “In that first half, we fought hard. We just kept shooting ourselves in the foot. After a while, when that happens, you give in defensively.”

The Golden Eagles opened the game with a 24-3 run over the first 12:08. Elecia Patton broke the run with a four-point play with 3:36 left in the second quarter.

Blanchester didn’t score again for 10:06, as Bellbrook went on a 21-0 run. That run expanded to 42-5 by late in the fourth quarter.

Turnovers were a problem for the Lady Wildcats, as Bellbrook forced 33 Blanchester miscues. When the Ladycats were able to shoot, they were just 5 of 34 (14.7 percent)

Bekah Vine led Bellbrook with 11 points. In total, 13 different Golden Eagles scored. Patton led Blanchester with five points.

Thursday’s game marked the final game for five Blanchester seniors: Merri Lindsey, Emma Gundler, McKenzie Miller, Savana Greene and Josi Farrow. Carroll said the five of them combined to win 68 games between reserve and varsity over the last four years, including an SBC National Division title a year ago.

“They’ve been a great bunch,” Carroll said. “They’re hard working and they’ve had a successful career. They’re a good bunch of girls and we owe a lot to them.”
