WILMINGTON — The Wilmington College Fightin’ Quakers women’s lacrosse team rallied in the second half but fell short Tuesday in an 8-7 loss to Thomas More at Williams Stadium.

“Tonight we were able to put the best 60 minutes together of the season,” said coach Bree Galloway. “We have made a lot of progress, but we need to continue to work on capitalizing our offensive possession when we have man up opportunities.”

WC freshman Clara Blaine and freshman Summer Wilbur (first collegiate goal) scored goals to tie the match at 2-2.

Thomas More was able to answer back with three straight goals. Blaine countered with a goal that made it 5-3 at halftime.

In the second half Wilmington was able to score four of the next six goals in the game and tie it up 7-7 with 7:38 left on the clock, two of the goals by Blaine.

With 2:26 left on the clock Thomas More was able to put another goal in the back of the net for the win.

Offensively Blaine led the way for Wilmington with four goals on six shots.

Defensively, junior Kara Griffith led the way causing four turnovers, and was able to pick up four ground balls.

Sophomore goalie, Megan Wieloch allowed eight goals while totaling 13 saves on the evening.

Wilmington (1-7) returns to action 1 p.m. Saturday at Baldwin Wallace in this season’s second conference game.
