BLANCHESTER — Overcoming a poor third inning, Blanchester outlasted Clermont Northeastern 10-8 Wednesday in Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference baseball action at Bott Field on the BHS campus.

The Wildcats (1-2 overall, 1-0 in SBC) led 4-0 early but the Rockets scored seven runs in the third inning on two BHS errors and three bases on balls.

“Hats off to CNE for not quitting,” BHS coach Aaron Lawson said. “We jumped out 4-0. They easily could have rolled over. We got lucky tonight. The third inning they scored seven runs but that did not come back to haunt us. We found a way to overcome.”

Blake Baker was one of four BHS pitchers and earned the victory with 2 1/3 innings of relief. Jacksson Waialae picked up the save with three strikeouts in the final inning of the game. Wildcat pitchers gave up just one earned run.

“Defensively we are like a light switch right now,” Lawson said. “We look great for nine outs, then the circus comes to town.”

Gavin Creighton had two homeruns and drove in three runs. Dylan Fawley had two hits and drove in two runs. Waialae also had two hits.

One of Creighton’s homers came in the fifth inning and proved to be the difference.

“The way it was going I did not think that was going to the winning homerun,” Lawson said. “What a great kid and hard worker. He deserved that one.”
