WILMINGTON — For the fourth time in the last five years, the Blanchester High School baseball team is champions of the Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference’s National Division.
Gavin Creighton led a 22-hit attack Wednesday as Blanchester blasted Georgetown 22-4 at Wilmington College’s Delaney-Tewksbury Field to clinch the outright league title.
“I am very happy for this team and what they were able to accomplish,” BHS coach Aaron Lawson said. “They have given so many hours to the cause and there is no doubt in my mind they have got what they deserve. This championship was won with selfless attitudes and understanding our roles.”
The Wildcats, who trailed 4-2 after the first inning, are 11-6 overall and 8-0 in the SBC National. Georgetown is 5-13 overall and 2-7 in division play.
“We battled adversity early on in the season and the team decided not to give up,” said Lawson. “That’s how champions are made. We did not get this title with nine guys. It took all 14 to buy in and accept their role. I am proud of their selfless attitudes and the willingness to play for the guy standing next to them.”
Creighton went 4-for-5 with four stolen bases. Brant Bandow drove in four runs. Creighton and Robert Rausch scored four runs each.
In all, seven BHS players had at least two hits and 11 players total had at least one hit.
