Tigers pick up second win in two days over Astros

GREENFIELD — For the second straight day, McClain pulled off a victory over East Clinton, 12-9, in South Central Ohio League baseball action.

On Wednesday, East Clinton led 12-4 but lost 14-12.

On Thursday, East Clinton scored three runs in the top of the seventh to get within three but were unable to get closer. The Astros trailed 5-1 after one inning but tied the game in the fourth, 5-5.

Ethan Cornwell had two hits, stole two bases (including home), scored twice and drove in two runs.

East Clinton is 4-12 overall and 1-11 in the SCOL.

“We hit the ball well tonight but so did they,” EC coach Brian Carey said. “We had a couple innings that cost us with mental and physical errors once again. I liked how aggressive we were at the plate and on the base paths. Ethan Cornwell has started to come alive at the plate and on the base paths. He straight stole home tonight which showed some fight and brought the energy back. We’ve played good ball for the most part these last five games but have been unable to get over the hump and get a W(in).”
