ECJH volleyball sweeps ROB

The East Clinton Junior High School volleyball teams defeated Wilmington’s Rodger O. Borror Middle School in a pair of matches Tuesday night.

The eighth grade Lady Astros were victorious 25-20, 25-16.

Kiya Byrd had three kills. Carlie Ellis had one point and one ace. Riley Flint had seven points and two aces. Camille Hughes had six points, three aces, three kills and one assist. Myah Jones had four points, one ace, two kills and one dig. Reagan Landrum had three points and five assists. Rhylee Luttrell had four points, two aces and five kills. Emma Malone had four points, three kills, three digs and two assists.

East Clinton will host its final match of the season Thursday against Clinton-Massie. It was be EC’s junior high volleyball team and student council Volley for the Cure night. Purple bracelets and baked goods will be on sale to help raise money to fight cancer.

In the seventh grade match against Borror, East Clinton came out on top 19-25, 25-9, 25-16.

Alexis Rolfe had 18 points, seven aces and two digs. Gracie Evanshine had 11 points, three aces, a kill and three digs. Jericka Boggs had nine pints, four aces, two kills and a block. Holly Bernard had four points. Katrina Bowman had three points, three aces, five kills and three digs. Gracie Boggs had two points, three kills and a block. Lauren Hadley had a point, a kill and a dig. Marcie Ellis and Braylynn Malone had one dig each.

Coach Jaime Evanshine said, “We didn’t play aggressively at the net or tough enough defense the first set, but my Astros came out tough that second and third sets. We let nothing drop those two sets and played awesome team volleyball which got us the win.”
