Massie juggernaut rolls on 56-7

HILLSBORO — Davey Tunon had nine carries for 104 yards and three touchdowns plus returned his own blocked punt for another score in the first half to lead 10th-ranked (Associated Press Div. IV poll) Clinton-Massie to a 56-7 South Central Ohio League victory Friday at Hillsboro (1-6, 0-4).

Luke Richardson hauled in Hunter Fentress’ 37-yard pass on the Falcons’ first offensive play of the game and took a punt 55 yards to paydirt for Massie’s other two first-half touchdowns.

The Falcons (6-1, 4-0) tacked on touchdown runs by Brad Hunt and Christian Poynter in the fourth quarter.

Hillsboro’s lone score came when Heith Brown blasted up the middle and raced 63 yards virtually untouched to the end zone.

Penalties — 13 for 115 yards — and offensive inconsistency are two things Falcons head coach Dan McSurley said he wants to remedy heading into a tough two-week SCOL stretch that includes Chillicothe, which was seconds from upending CM last year, and Wilmington.

“We’re going to have to address those issues and look at the film to see what went on,” McSurley said. “Our offense just hasn’t been able to get into any rhythm during the past three to four weeks.

“We are going to get two really nice players back we kept out tonight who are really going to help us, Tommy Williams and J.T. Wolf. We hope those two will really spark us. We’ll be full throttle next week.”

Massie now has won 50 straight games versus SCOL opponents, which includes a playoff win over Miami Trace.
