CM girls run away from WHS in title game

WAYNESVILLE — Starting fast in both halves, Clinton-Massie cruised to a 57-41 win over Waynesville Saturday night in the championship game of the Waynesville tournament.

The Lady Falcons, 4-0 on the year, outscored the Lady Spartans 20-11 to start the game then 15-8 in the third period.

Miquela Santoro had 24 points to lead CMHS. She converted 10 of 15 free throws. As a team, the Lady Falcons made 19 0f 28 free throws.

Rachel Murray led Waynesville with 12 points, making 7 of 10 free throws along the way.

Santoro had 9 points in the opening frame while Johanna Theetge scored 5 as Carlos Roberts’ squad raced out to a 20-11 lead.

Madilyn Newton came off the bench to scored 6 in the second for CM but WHS made it a 27-22 difference at the break.

In the third, Sydney Leary exploded for all 8 of her points as the Lady Falcons stretched its lead to 42-30 at the end of the period.

In the fourth, Santoro closed it out with 11, including 6 of 8 from the line.
