Wilmington College men rout Otterbein on the road 87-54

WESTERVILLE — Wilmington College never trailed Wednesday in an 87-54 rout of Otterbein in Ohio Athletic Conference men’s basketball action at the Rike Center on the OU campus.

The Quakers (5-16 overall, 4-12 in the OAC) had 11 players on the roster play at least 12 minutes in the blowout win over the Cardinals (4-19 overall, 2-14 in the OAC).

Andrew Russell paced the WC offense with 17 points. DJ Iles added 16 on 5 of 7 shooting and Zach McCorkle had 10 points, nine rebounds and three steals.

As a team, Wilmington converted all 13 of its free throw attempts with Jordan Jones going 5-for-5.

The Quaker bench outscored the Cardinal bench 35-20 with Jones netting nine points and coming up with three steals in a reserve role.

Brandon Smith and Malcolm Pittman also came off the bench with eight points each. Pittman also grabbed nine rebounds.

Christian Jones and Connor Casey led WC with three assists each.

The Wilmington defense forced 21 Otterbein turnovers, which were converted into 20 points for WC. The Cardinals also had trouble solving the Quakers defense in the half-court, registering just three assists on 18 made baskets.

Despite scoring 87 points, Wilmington did not play a hurry-up game. The Quakers were credited with just six fastbreak points.
