WC baseball drops pair to MSJ

FLORENCE, Ky. — The Wilmington College baseball team was swept in a non-conference doubleheader by the Mount St. Joseph Lions, 8-7 and 20-6, Sunday at UC Health Stadium.

Wilmington falls to 0-5 on the season, while Mount St. Joseph improved to 5-0.

In the first game, freshmen Gage Bley (Harrison) and Jake Hyatt (Madeira) combined to go 5-for-8 with five RBI and three runs scored. Bley homered in the ninth.

Senior Corey Walker (Hillsboro) allowed three earned runs in 6 2/3 innings with five strikeouts, but didn’t factor into the decision as the starting pitcher.

Senior Tyler Schrock (Waynesville) scored Wilmington’s first two runs as WC took a 3-0 lead and a 5-1 advantage. He finished the day 2-for-5.

In the second game, freshman Wade Gillette (Northwest) recorded his first career hit and drove in first career RBIs in second inning.

Wilmington tallied three runs in the sixth inning with Bley and senior Max Ramsey (Waynesville) driving in runs. Eight different players recorded hits with Hyatt going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Sophomore Tyler McDaniel (Edgewood) had an RBI single in the eighth inning.
