The Wilmington College women’s lacrosse team fell to Franciscan Wednesday in non-conference action, 9-5, on Townsend Field in Williams Stadium.

The Barons scored the game’s first three goals and never relinquished the lead.

After missing the last two games with an injury, sophomore Michala Villinger (Newark, OH/Newark) scored back-to-back goals to pull Wilmington to within one. It’s the first multi-goal game of her career.

Franciscan tallied three straight, all on free position shots, to boost its lead back to four.

Wilmington got a goal from senior Abby Jude (Lancaster, OH/Fairfield Union) on a rebound at the end of the first half, and junior Nikki Northern (Dayton, OH/Chaminade Julienne) opened the second with a goal.

Senior Stephanie Belz (Gahanna, OH/Lincoln) scored her team-high ninth goal of the season. She has now scored in five of the team’s six games.

Senior Katie Bennett (Newport, OH/Frontier) finished with seven saves on 16 shots.

Senior Loryn Bryson (Carlisle, OH/Carlisle) and senior Rachel Routzong (Urbana, OH/Urbana) both caused a team-high four turnovers.

Six different players recorded four ground balls.

Wilmington (1-5) has a quick turnaround, hosting Trine 1 p.m. Friday in non-conference action.
