OAC honors WC’s Bolen

AUSTINTOWN – Wilmington College senior thrower Marissa Bolen has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference women’s Field Athlete of the Week.

It’s the first time in her career Bolen (Gibsonburg, OH/Gibsonburg) has earned the league’s weekly award, and the first female track and field athlete to pick up the honor this season. The last WC female track athlete to be so honored was Lauren Stacy, who earned the accolade last season.

“Marissa had a great meet on Saturday at Hanover,” said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. “I think, for Marissa, it’s just one step in the lead up to the OAC at Wilmington in four weeks, and pushing to be an All-American in the shot put. She was strong at Hanover in three events, but the shot put was a good confidence builder finishing ahead of two indoor National qualifiers.”

She brought home the lone women’s victory, winning the shot put (13.23). Her toss in the shot put was the fifth-best nationally thus far this season. Bolen also scored in the discus, placing sixth (35.38).
