The Wilmington College softball team allowed two unearned runs, one in each game, as they earned their first Ohio Athletic Conference sweep since 2014 with a pair of wins (2-1 and 6-1) over Baldwin Wallace Saturday at the Wilmington College softball complex.

Sophomore Chandler Fields’ (Delaware, OH/Rutherford B. Hayes) two-out single in the bottom of the sixth inning scored pinch runner Kennedy Metz (Russia, OH/Russia) with the eventual winning run in a 2-1 win.

The game-winning rally started with a two-out single by Allison Pierce (Troy, OH/Troy), who was pinch ran for by Metz. Junior Kerrie Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) worked a two-out walk ahead of Fields’ pinch-hit single.

Baldwin Wallace snapped a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning on a two-out squeeze bunt.

Senior Jessie Stewart (Fredericktown, OH/Highland) scored sophomore Savannah Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington) with the tying run on a two-out single.

Eight different WC batters recorded hits as the Fightin’ Quakers collected 11 hits Saturday. Hooper was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored, while sophomore Whitney Edwards (Frankfort, KY/Franklin County) and Pierce each went 2-for-3.

Sophomore Becca Carpenter, 4-9, (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern) picked up the victory, allowing one unearned run on five hits with four strikeouts. She added Wilmington’s lone extra base-hit, a fourth-inning double.

Wilmington plated runs in three of its six innings, including a three-run fifth, to secure the OAC sweep with a 6-1 victory.

The Fightin’ Quakers took the lead with a RBI double by Trautman that scored senior Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City) from third. A two-out error scored Edwards with an addition run in the inning.

Wilmington loaded the bases for the first of three times in the third inning, but managed just a single run on Pierce’s sacrifice fly. WC failed to score in the fourth inning after loading the bases, but didn’t allow a third chance to be squandered.

Edwards started the fifth with a single, and then Trautman added a one-out single. Sophomore Sawyer Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington) loaded the bases with a bunt single, and Fields cleared the bases with a double.

Warren was 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and stolen base, while Trautman was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Fields was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and a stolen base.

Sophomore Beth Persicano, 2-2, (Knoxville, TN/Cincinnati Turpin) allowed an unearned run on five hits to pick up the victory. She recorded three strikeouts with two walks. Carpenter slammed the door getting the final two outs after BW put two runners on base.
