Tunon excels in Tulsa

Clinton-Massie grad Davey Tunon wrestled in Tulsa, Oklahoma over the weekend with Team Ohio — and they headed home with a national title. Team Ohio won the Junior National freestyle Duals, while Tunon took 9th place in the junior national Greco-Roman duals.

This was Tunon’s first crack at Greco-Roman, but it was required to wrestle both styles to be part of the team. With three short days of training, he pulled off three big-five moves (suplex worth 5 points) in three different matches at Greco.

He won all but one of his matches at freestyle.

They also wrestled against a Michigan team whose coaches are Indiana University wrestling head coach Nick Simmons and IU assistant coach Travis Pascoe. As Tunon will be attending IU, that meant he had to wrestle opposite his soon-to-be college coaches.
