Massie outlasts Reading to even record at 2-2

READING — Clinton-Massie started the both halves strong and went on to defeat Reading 48-25 Monday in non-league girls basketball.

The Falcons (2-2 on the year) outscored the Blue Devils 26-8 in the first and third periods, then 22-17 in the second and fourth frames.

The game was the first of the season for Massie’s Aiden Eades.

“She played really well,” CM coach Hilma Crawford said. “The three seniors (Eades, Maddie Phipps, McKenna Branham) all played well.”

Eades led Massie with 15 points. She also had seven rebounds, four assists and four steasls. Hannah Bowman scored 12 points, grabbed six rebounds, came up with four steals and blocked three shots.

Crawford said the Falcons executed several plays on offense and were solid on defense.

Clinton-Massie forced Reading into 23 turnovers and just 9 of 32 shooting.

Mia Hankerson led Reading with 11 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots. Aside from Hankerson’s 4 of 5 shooting, the rest of the Reading team was 5 for 27.
