ADAMS TOWNSHIP — After a slow start, the Clinton-Massie girls basketball team soared to a 40-31 win Monday over Batavia in SBAAC American Division action.

The Falcons are 8-11 on the year, 4-6 in the American Division.

Playing better as the season has progressed, the Falcons have won three of its last four games.

“It’s been a few years since we have finished as high as fourth in the league and getting eight wins,” CM head coach Hilma Crawford said.

Batavia is 5-5 in league play, one spot ahead of Massie in the standings. The Bulldogs are 11-9 overall.

Hannah Bowman scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Massie. She had 10 points in the second half.

Maddie Phipps scored nine points.

“Hannah did an outstanding job on Lucy Thompson by holding her to five points,” Crawford said. “She (Thompson) scored 20 in the first meeting. Also playing well was Maddie Phipps. She wasn’t feeling the greatest but really played well through it.”

The teams were tied at 4-4 after one but Massie took a 14-11 lead at halftime and extended its advantage to 27-18 after three quarters.

Despite making just 5 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter, Massie was able to hold on for the win.
