EMA successfully transitions to new emergency alerts provider

At Wednesday’s meeting of the Clinton County Commissioners, Thomas Breckel, director of the Clinton County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), delivered a comprehensive update on the successful transition to the county’s new emergency alerts provider.

Breckel said, “The transition is completed, and the majority of the records were transferred.”

The county’s new emergency alert provider, Inspiration Logistics, has launched its cutting-edge Wireless Emergency Notification System (WENS).

According to Breckel, “The new alerts provide a wider variety of topics that were not available with the prior system.”

Citizens are encouraged to sign up via the county’s website, cc-ema.org, to explore the enhanced options for opting-in.

A notable feature of the new system is the utilization of geo-coded mapping to send alerts specifically to those affected. Breckel highlighted that individuals who signed up solely by sending a keyword via text (without a recorded address) won’t receive geo-coded alerts. Despite the upgrade, the new system comes at a reduced cost compared to the previous provider.

In addition to the transition, commissioners and Breckel discussed the potential for direct communication with county employees by department or building during emergencies and how this functionality could be facilitated.

For further information or to sign up for the new emergency alert system, Breckel encourages residents to visit cc-ema.org.
