Girls Basketball Final: Wilmington 49, New Richmond 40

NEW RICHMOND — Wilmington ran its winning streak over New Richmond to 13 games Thursday with a 49-40 win in SBAAC American Division competition.

Wilmington is 3-4 overall and 2-2 in league play. New Richmond id 2-6 overall, 1-3 in the American Division.

The Hurricane has defeated the Lions every year since joining the SBAAC for the 2017-18 school year.

The two teams started the game well above their season average. WHS averages 45 points a game and the Lions 34.

But it was 16-14 Wilmington at the end of the first period.

That pace didn’t last as the WHS defense began to settle in. The Hurricane led 24-21 at the half and 36-32 after three periods in a tightly-contested game.

The Hurricane won the final quarter 13-8 and the game by nine points.
