MONROE — The Wilmington High School cross country team opened its season Monday at the Monroe Invitational.

The varsity races were all set at two miles.

Max McCoy posted the best finis for the Hurricane, placing 19th in the varsity boys race.

“Out of 12 high schoolers, three ran their first cross country race,” coach Karen Heslop said. “Our of 14 middle school runners, we had 10 run the first race of their careers. This is a great starting point to the season and we are excited to watch it play out.”
