WC student passes away on eve of new school year

The Wilmington College community is mourning the loss of one of its students. Sophomore Mackenzie Corbin passed away over the weekend. She was an agribusiness major from South Salem, Ohio, and a member of Sigma Alpha sorority.

The College canceled Monday classes and other activities. Since Sunday afternoon, professional counselors from WC’s Counseling Center have been available at multiple locations throughout the campus.

WC President Corey Cockerill said, “Our College community has experienced the unfathomable loss of a beloved student. Our hearts go out to Mackenzie’s family and friends as we hold her memory close in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We are a College community that cares deeply for one another. May our campus be held in the Light.”

The family has shared plans for the visitation and funeral. Calling hours are Saturday (Aug. 24), from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 457 Jefferson St., Greenfield.
