WILMINGTON — Birthday girl Layna Holmes led Wilmington to a 5-0 win over Goshen Wednesday in SBAAC American Division tennis on the WHS courts.

“Glad to see Layna get the win on her birthday,” WHS coach Doug Cooper said. “She plays on the toughest court and battles every single night.

Wilmington is 2-3 overall, 2-1 in the league. Goshen is 0-3 overall, 0-2 in league play. The Warriors are coached by former player Danah Middick.

“It was good to reconnect with coach Middick,” Cooper said. “She was a first doubles player at Goshen for coach (Bryce) Blanton and was a key player in some real battles with us when it was us and Goshen dominating the American Division.

“That is one of the fun and rewarding things about coaching and teaching … to see players and students go into adulthood and give back to the next generation.”
