SABINA, OHIO — The new East Clinton Middle School celebrated its grand opening on Sunday at 2 p.m. The ceremony featured a ribbon-cutting by board members to mark the occasion, along with the re-dedication of trees planted in memory of Rod Danes, Joshua Allemang, and Laura King.

Reflecting on the significance of the new facilities, the East Clinton administration stated, “With the opening of this new building, our students have been given open doors. The new technology offers endless possibilities, and the visual and performing arts wings have the potential to inspire the next great American artists. The science wings offer the opportunity to nurture the person who will cure cancer. The school’s new facilities represent unlimited possibilities for the future.”

According to information provided by the East Clinton administration, the history of East Clinton Local Schools is a story of consolidation and growth, representing the merging of several local communities over the years. The journey began in 1837 with eight separate school districts within Wayne Township, including Concord, Harmony, Memphis, Pleasant Hill, Sharp’s, Tin Top, Willow College, and Texas Schools.

In 1903, these schools were combined to form the Wayne Township Centralized School, marking the creation of the first centralized school district in Ohio and the nation. This centralized school operated until 1953, when it merged with the Reesville District to become the Simon Kenton School District. A decade later, in 1963, the New Vienna District joined with Simon Kenton, leading to the formation of New Kenton Local Schools.

Finally, in 1965, the New Kenton and Sabina districts merged to create what is now known as East Clinton Local Schools, serving the community from 1965 to the present day.
