WILMINGTON, OHIO — Police arrested a Wilmington man during a foot patrol along the city’s bike paths early morning Aug. 20, according to a news release.

Officers discovered multiple encampments in the wooded area behind Clinton Memorial Hospital. During their investigation, they found Joshua Anderson allegedly hiding near a bridge on the east side of Nelson Avenue. After being instructed to come out of hiding, Anderson reached for a knife on his hip, police said. He complied with the order to place his hands on his head and was taken into custody, where he was charged with criminal trespass and transported to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office for booking.

Wilmington Police officers frequently patrol encampment areas to prevent crime and dangerous encounters while helping people access necessary resources, according to the release.

The release states, “the proactive apprehension of Mr. Anderson exemplifies the department’s dedication to community safety and the well-being of vulnerable populations.”

Anyone with information about illegal activity or encampments can contact the Wilmington Police Department at 937-382-3833.
