WILMINGTON, OHIO — The Clinton County History Center has announced it will host the State Historic Preservation Office’s “Building Doctor” clinic on Thursday, Nov. 7, at the History Center, located at 149 E. Locust St., Wilmington.

This event, which the History Center has eagerly-anticipated bringing to Clinton County, will offer valuable insights to those looking to gain professional advice on the preservation and restoration of historic homes throughout the county, according to a news release.

The clinic will feature a free two-hour evening seminar focusing on common issues faced by historic buildings, such as cracked plaster, wet basements, and masonry repairs. Following the seminar, up to 10 historic sites will have the opportunity to receive personalized “house call” assessments by preservation experts on Nov. 8. Both the clinic and the site visits are completely free of charge to the public, providing an invaluable resource for historic property owners. Reservations are requested for those wishing to attend the seminar.

“We’ve desired to host the clinic for several years,” said Shelby Boatman, executive director of the Clinton County History Center. “We’re excited to see how the seminar will aid those in our community who are dedicated to preserving and restoring the beautiful historic homes throughout Clinton County.”

Those interested in having their properties evaluated must fill out the registration form located on the History Center’s website at ClintonCountyHistory.org/building-doctor-clinic/. If you would like a house call, provide a brief description of the building issues you are facing in the fields provided on the registration form. Site visits are on a first-come, first-served basis and are limited to 10 per clinic. Properties must be within a five-mile radius of Wilmington and built before the 1960s. You must attend the prior evening’s seminar to qualify for a house call. You’ll be contacted in advance of the clinic to set up an appointment for your home assessment. House calls are 50 minutes in duration and begin on the hour. Please do not sign up if you are not available between 9 a.m.– 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8.

Registration is required for both the seminar and the house calls. Interested participants are encouraged to register early to secure their spot.
