WILMINGTON, OHIO — The Clinton County History Center is proud to announce that its current museum exhibit, “Beyond the Scoreboard: An Exhibit Celebrating Clinton County Sports Throughout The Years,” has been selected for an Outstanding Achievement Award in the category of Exhibits or Displays by the Ohio Local History Alliance (OLHA).

OLHA is a statewide organization dedicated to supporting local history organizations and professionals, according to a news release. The group provides resources, education, and networking opportunities for its members, while also promoting the importance of preserving and interpreting local history.

This prestigious award recognizes the exceptional quality and historical significance of the “Beyond the Scoreboard” exhibit, which showcases the rich tapestry of Clinton County’s sporting heritage. From the early days of grassroots competitions to modern-day athletic triumphs, the exhibit offers a captivating journey through the heart and soul of local sports culture.

“We are thrilled to receive this recognition from OLHA,” said Shelby Boatman, executive director of the Clinton County History Center. “This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, volunteers, and community members who contributed to the creation of this exhibit.”

During the development of the exhibit, staff discovered that the museum’s collection of sports and educational memorabilia was severely lacking. Thanks to the generous donations and loans of items from the community, this comprehensive showcase of Clinton County’s sporting history has been made possible. A special thanks goes to Mark Huber, sports editor of the Wilmington News Journal, for his invaluable assistance in the exhibit’s development and subsequent creation of the “Scoreboard Speaks” monthly sports speaker series.

The Outstanding Achievement Award will be formally presented to Shelby Boatman at the OLHA Annual Meeting Awards luncheon on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Until then, visitors are encouraged to stop by the Clinton County History Center to experience the “Beyond the Scoreboard” exhibit firsthand. The exhibit will be on display through December 2024 and is open to the public weekly on Thursday and Fridays 1-4 p.m. or Saturdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (excluding the upcoming weekend of the Corn Festival).
