Sabina council seeks revitalization with new projects

SABINA, OHIO — A series of projects touched on at a recent village council meeting seeks to bring renewal to the Village of Sabina.

Sidewalks in Sabina are being replaced as part of an ongoing series of construction undertakings. The sidewalks are being torn up and repaved to make them handicap-accessible, a small part of a series of projects along State Route 729/Howard Street that will see the repaving of Howard Street between North Street and Dakin Chapel Road, including a structure over Wilson Creek.

The first part of the project, a water main replacement on South Howard Street was, according to Sabina Mayor Abe Arnold in a Aug. 22 village council meeting, supposed to have been started the second week of August, though plans seemed to have been delayed. Work on the water main was set to precede the resurfacing of State Route 729, which has been blocked off for some time.

The street, effectively Sabina’s main street, is an important route through town, and its closure has rerouted traffic along varied routes. According to Clinton County’s Department of Transportation website, the project along SR-729 is forecast to affect the roadway until mid-September. Until then, traffic will be and has been diverted by detours by way of U.S. 22, State Route 72, I-71, U.S. 35 and State Route 435.

Along with road construction, Sabina’s council will be implementing more plans to continue efforts to organize the town with new and old projects returning.

A neighborhood watch, which had been on hiatus throughout the summer, is due to restart in September, with a stated start date of Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. in council chambers.

Along with this, a DEA drug take-back program is set for Oct. 26 at 2 p.m., with the location to be announced at a later date. The Clinton County Recycling Litter Prevention will be conducting a free electronic recycling event on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. In order to participate you must register online by Sept. 13, noon, at www.co.clinton.oh.us/recycling.

The village council also plans to clean street catch drains, which began earlier this month, and will continue throughout the next few months. The council also elected to set aside $1,000 of the annual budget to deal with tall grass nuisances and other village beautification efforts.

These efforts and more will seek to revitalize the downtown and outlying neighborhoods as the summer closes. The village council is set to meet again twice in September. The first meeting will be held Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. and the second on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. All community members are encouraged to join.
