CEDARVILLE — East Clinton falls to 0-2 with a 40-6 loss to Cedarville Friday night.

The game was delayed from the start after the heat and humidity caused the kickoff to be pushed back an hour. Cedarville opened its season last week with a win over Fayetteville-Perry.

Colt Coffey had 18 rushes for 156 yards and three touchdowns for Cedarville. Isaiah Christian ran for 107 yards and a touchdown as the Indians totaled 264 yards on 27 rushing attempts.

Christian also had 13 tackles while Nathan Terrell finished with 12 tackles.

The Indians started the game with an onside kick, fumbled by the Astros, giving the Indians opening possession. The Indians went on to score with 11:51 left in the game with the extra point kick blocked by the Astros.

After an East Clinton three and out, with 8:51 left in the first quarter, Cedarville scored a touchdown and added the extra point bringing the score to 13-0. The Astros were then able to hold the Indians at 13-0 for the rest of the first quarter.

The second quarter began with back and forth penalties between both teams. Followed by a first down with 5:42 left in the quarter with a run by Aiden Conger. But the Astros had to punt and Cedarville followed with a long run with 2:40 left in the quarter for a first down. The Indians finished off the second quarter scoring with a 15 yard touchdown run. The extra point was missed and the Astros went to the half down 19-0.

The third quarter started off with an almost immediate touchdown from the Indians, 10:31 left in the quarter with the extra point as well and it was 26-0.

Astros held them there for a while as they got a first down with 7:35 left in the quarter, though sadly not leading to anything more than another touchdown for the Indians with 5:43 left in the quarter. With the extra point, the Indians ended the third quarter up 33-0.

The fourth and final quarter started well for the Astros, with a 45-yard first down pass at the 10 minute mark from Conger to Clayton Kimmey. Then Dameon Williams ran for a first down and East Clinton had the ball first and goal.

The possession ended with another Conger to Kimmey connection, this one for a touchdown with 6:52 remain in the quarter.

This did not lead to prosperity for the Astros, though, as with 4:49 left in the game the Indians got their final touchdown with the extra point setting the final 40-6.
