FRANKLIN, Ind. — The Wilmington College women’s soccer team scored a goal in the first half and another in the second to defeat the Franklin College Grizzlies 2-1 in their season opener on the road Friday night.

Junior Alex Wilson scored the season’s first goal for the Quakers by beating goalkeeper Makenna Mundy to a ball at the top of the box before neatly slotting the ball in the back of the net. The Quakers conceded an own goal when an errant header by Quaker defender Lindsey Bauer went just over the keepers’ head late in the first half. Wilmington and Franklin were knotted at 1-1 heading into halftime.

Wilmington dominated the second half and outshot the Grizzlies 12-3. MJ Little broke through with one of her six total shots and scored what would eventually be the game deciding goal. The Quakers would go on to win by a final score of 2-1.

Goalkeeper Emma Storck is credited with the first win of the season.

The Quakers will face Spalding University in Louisville 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
