WILMINGTON — Kaden Young netted two goals for the Quakers on the way to a three-goal victory, doubling up the visiting Mount St. Joseph Lions 6-3 at Townsend Field.
Young opened his scoring with a goal in the second minute of the second half to break a 2-2 tie and again 13 minutes later to lock the Quakers’ sixth goal of the night.
Parker Burke opened the scoring with a slick corner shot in the third minute. Logan Kent tied the game at 2 in the 40th minute following two Lions goals. Randy Harris netted the other Wilmington goal in the 55th minute, and assisted the second Young goal. Mount St. Joseph put four into the net, one of which went into their own net, for Wilmington’s sixth goal.
The Quakers relentless attack put half of their 12 shots on goal past Aaron Smith and the Lions defense.
Oliver Metz performed admirably in goal, making two saves of five shots faced across 78 minutes for the Quakers. Two of the Lions’ goals came via penalty kicks, first by Mohit Naphray and second by Willis Johnson.
Harris and Jordan Domoe dished out assists for the Quakers.
Wilmington plays at Rose-Hulman 2 p.m. Sunday. The Quakers haven’t played the Fightin’ Engineers since 2010, when they played to a scoreless draw.
