LYNCHBURG — The East Clinton cross country teams ran against Lynchburg-Clay and Whiteoak Saturday in a meet that “could easily have been named the Heat Meet,” EC coach Josh Simmons said.

The temperature was in the 90s, according to Simmons, “and it was difficult to give 100 percent,” he said.

The EC varsity boys finished behind Lynchburg with Jackson Seabaugh placing third in 19:54.68.

Dru Simmons was 10th in 21:46.13, Landen Kaun 11th in 23:00.64, Luke Thompson 12th in 23:57.88, Jacob George 13th in 24:07.28, Colton Brockman 15th in 26:41.41, Ben Gates 16th in 28:02.52 and Wyatt Oberschlake 17th in 31:38.35.

In the middle school race, with boys and girls competing together, Simmons said, Ally George was third for the EC girls in 16:18.3 with Autumn Joseph finishing fifth in 20:43.2.

On the boys side, Carter Kaun made his racing debut by finishing third overall in 12:42.92. Jaxson Manning was sixth in 14:19.97, Owen Smith 8th in 15:39.47.

”These kids really endured a tough race,” coach Simmons said. “Running in that kind of heat will take a lot out of you. I’m proud of all their efforts.”
