Wildcats strong on 3-setters but unable to beat Rockets

OWENSVILLE — In a match that finished with darkness overhead, the Blanchester tennis team came up short 3-2 Wednesday in an SBAAC National Division tennis match to Clermont Northeastern.

“Tough loss for sure,” Blanchester coach Matt Sexton said.

Blanchester won two three-set matches — Lydia Siler at second singles 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (8-6) and the doubles team of Madison Taylor and Tatum Strange 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.

“Really proud of Lydia battling to pick up another win,” Sexton said. “After losing the breaker, she jumped out to an early lead and was able to hold on by winning the third-set breaker 8-6.

“Second doubles continued their strong play, finishing off CNE’s second doubles who had only lost to Georgetown so far this year. It was very dark when they finished, but they hit the shots they needed to get it done.”
