WILMINGTON — Clinton-Massie won the second annual Clinton County Girls Golf Tournament Thursday at the Elks 797 Golf Club.

Led by medalist Grace Boone, the Falcons had a 176 team total while Wilmington had 192 and Blanchester shot 223.

Boone had a 41 while teammate Stormie Stroud shot 42 and Wilmington’s Abi Earley had a 43 and Kailey Pfister carded a 44. Alivia Brewster led Blanchester with a 51.

“Four scores in the low 40s at the top of the field is some really well played golf,” Clinton-Massie coach James Brady said.

He noted Boone’s birdie on the first hole and “a wonderful recovery” on No. 3 after going out of bounds with her tee shot were “vital to her victory,” he said.

Stroud hit the pin on No. 3, coming oh so close to a hole-in-one, the coach said.

“Rylee Long, Sammi VanPelt and Charlotte Robinson are becoming very consistent for us which would be huge come tournament time,” said Brady. “Lauren Edwards dropped her (seasons) best score on back to back days. Lauren has improved so much this season. She’s one of my O.G.’s (original golfers) from my first team in 2020. She plays the game with a positive attitude. She’s going to be missed next season for sure.”

Brady said Earley and Pfister “had excellent rounds” with Earley finishing strong after a difficult first hole. Pfister, who also plays soccer at WHS, is in her first year of golf.

“As a fellow coach we get to interact with these girls quite often throughout the season,” Brady explained. “It is impressive that this is her first year playing golf. Coach (Chad) Fields has been excellent bringing her along quickly this season. He is very invested in his team.”

Of the Wildcats, Brady said, “I am excited for Blanchester golf. They have two freshmen that will continue to improve and their juniors will be in the running next year for all league honors. Coach (Jamey) Grogg has worked very hard with his team. Alivia is a wonderful young person who has improved so much over the past few seasons. Her willingness to work and improve has set the standard for her teammates to follow for years to come.”
