New Vienna residents asked to follow burn ban

NEW VIENNA, Ohio — The Village of New Vienna is asking residents to follow a burn ban and conserve water due to ongoing drought conditions, according to the Clinton County Emergency Management Agency.

Clinton County is currently in a D2 classification for severe drought, which brings a higher risk of accidental fires and stress on the water supply. The village’s water comes from wells, which are being closely monitored.

With no significant rain in the forecast and dry conditions persisting, there is also a strong probability that portions of Clinton County, especially near the Highland County border, will be elevated to a D3 category (extreme drought) when the Drought Monitor Map is updated this Thursday, Sept. 19. In light of this, the village council has issued a burn ban.

This burn ban prohibits the lighting and maintenance of any fire, including outdoor activities that may produce sparks. This includes discarding matches or cigarettes, campfires, bonfires, fire pits, cooking fires, and any spark-causing devices for recreational purposes. These measures are in place to help reduce the risk of fires and conserve the water supply during these critical conditions.
