BHS girls reach highest win total since 2018

WILMINGTON — Laylla Sears had a hat trick and Blanchester defeated Wilmington 5-0 Thursday in non-league girls soccer at Alumni Field.

The Wildcats (6-5) led the Hurricane (2-9) at the half.

Ava Lanham and Karlee Tipton combined for five saves in goal as the Wildcats recorded their fourth shutout of the season.

Sears scored first off a penalty kick then Ali Trovillo made it 2-0 with 13 seconds to go in the first half off a Kennedy Renick corner kick.

Sears tallied two more goals in the second half with Kenzie Blankenbeckler also scoring. Morgyn Coyle, Evelyn Kohler and Hailee Harris had assists on the second half goals.

“I’m proud of another shutout road win from the girls,” BHS coach Kyle Hamilton said. “That makes four this season. All of our girls played great. Laylla Sears got the first hat trick of the season, and having four different girls with assists means great team play.”

Hamilton said the six wins is the most for the BHS girls since the 2018 season.

“The girls worked really hard to get here and we hope to continue it,” he said.
