Bates stays hot with 11th straight victory

BLANCHESTER — After three straight 5-0 wins, the Blanchester tennis team has dropped three consecutive 4-1 matches. The latest was a 4-1 defeat to McNicholas Monday on the BHS courts.

“I thought we played very well on all five courts against a very solid opponent,” Blanchester coach Matt Sexton said.

Lilly Bates was a 6-4, 6-4 winner, her 11th straight win. She improves to 17-6 on the year.

“Lilly does what she does,” said Sexton. “She just keeps battling and comes up with the big shots when she needs them. Really impressive win.

”Lydia (Siler) and Tatum (Strange) both played excellent tennis against good opponents at singles. First doubles (Ryan Maines, Breanna Weldon) really played a great second set. I thought they might be able to force a third set, but kudos to McNick for getting across the finish line. Happy for Trinity (McCollister) and Sidney (Turner) playing their first varsity match. I thought they did a lot of good things against two players with a lot more experience.”
