CENTERVILLE — And Steed was the sectional medalist Thursday and the Clinton-Massie boys golf team finished second in the Division II Sectional at The Golf Club at Yankee Trace.

The runnerup finish puts the Falcons in the Division II Southwest District tournament Tuesday at Pipestone Golf Club. The top three teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the OHSAA Division II State Boys Golf Championship Oct. 13-14 at Akron’s Firestone Country Club.

Wilmington freshman Gunnar Martin also qualified for the district tournament. He finished third among individuals not on qualifying teams by the tiebreaker of having the third lowest score on the back nine (44).

Kettering Archbishop Alter, who had five golfers in the top seven, was an easy team winner with a 301. The Falcons were next at 323 while Chaminade-Julienne was third with 324.

Clinton-Massie will need to shave a few strokes off its score if it wants to reach its ultimate goal of the state tournament.

“We really need to clean up our mistakes if we are going to have any chance to advance to the state,” Clinton-Massie coach Phil Larrick said.

Wilmington was 10th in the team standings with a 395.

Steed toured the 18-hole layout in 2-under par. Steed played both sides in 35. He also was sectional champion last season at Pipestone. Steed finished seventh as both a sophomore and freshman at the sectional.

Owen Goodwin was next for the Falcons with an 80 (38-42) while Colson Morgan carded an 84 (41-43).

Micah Ruther had an 89 (45-44) and Jack DeHart came in with 95 (49-46).
