Week 6 Final: Blanchester 12, Clermont NE 7

OWENSVILLE — Sammy Roush scored with 33 seconds remaining Saturday to lift Blanchester over Clermont Northeastern 12-7.

The SBAAC National Division football game was postponed from Friday night to Saturday morning because of inclement weather.

And for most of the day, it looked like Blanchester was stuck in mud.

The offense moved the ball but was unable to reach the end zone. One field goal attempt never materialized when the snap was mishandled, another possession ended with a fumble into the end zone and another fumble led to the Rockets touchdown.

Late in the third, Blanchester turned the ball over to CNE. The Rockets had a botched snap but were able to gain 30 yards on the play to get inside the 10. At the 2:16 mark of the third, CNE scored to make it 7-0.

The way the Wildcats offense was going, that deficit seemed nearly insurmountable. Sammy McEntire, though, may have saved the day and perhaps the season.

A Blanchester punt was blocked and the Rockets appeared on the way to another score, but McEntire came up with an interception in the end zone and with 8:51 to go in the fourth there was still time for the Wildcats.

The offense punted again, however, but the defense made another stand, stopped the Rockets on fourth down.

This time the offense made good on that stop. Caleb Sears raced 42 yards on a third down play as Blanchester finally got on the scoreboard. With 3:36 to go in the game, BHS trailed 7-6.

Clermont Northeastern gave the Wildcats life with another fumbled snap. BHS recovered and had 37 yards to negotiate for a go-ahead score with 2:30 to play.

Sears had two big runs and Blanchester was with a yard of taking the lead. Roush bullyed his way into the end zone with 33 seconds to go and BHS took a 12-7 lead.

On the last play, Kaden Cromer pressured the CNE quarterback into an incomplete pass and the Wildcats were able to escape with a victory.

The BHS defense held CNE to 67 yards on offense, including 26 rushes for 8 yards on the ground.
