Week 7 Final: Williamsburg 22, Blanchester 18

BLANCHESTER — Williamsburg had four sacks on the final Blanchester possession Friday night and held on for a 22-18 win at Barbour Memorial Field.

Williamsburg is now 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the SBAAC National Division, tied with 2-0 Bethel-Tate for top spot in the league.

Blanchester drops to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in league play.

After Sammy Roush scored on a brilliant 74-yard run from scrimmage in the opening quarter, Blanchester turned to the air and held an 18-15 lead in the fourth quarter.

First a 12 yard pass from Brayden Behymer to Zack Musselman made it 12-7 then Musselman caught one from lefty Caleb Sears in the fourth to make it 18-15 Blanchester.

BHS, however, failed to convert all three extra points and missed a field goal that would come back to haunt them.

After the Blan score at 4:53 of the fourth, Williamsburg got a huge kickoff return, a play that typified the night for the Blan defense as WHS broke several tackles on the play.

With only 40 yards to go, the Clermont County Wildcats made quick work of the BHS defense, taking five plays to go 40 in just 2:09. Gray Robinson scored his second TD of the night and Blanchester was down by four.

On the final possession of the night, Behymer hooked up with Roush for 11 yards and then with Sears for 30 yards to get the ball to the WHS 34.

But two straight sacks, an incomplete pass and another sack ended the Blanchester comeback hopes.

The loss also dashed the Blanchester league title hopes and playoff chances as well. BHS will need someone to knock off WHS in the final three weeks in order to have a shot at the National title.

During the game, Williamsburg’s Brody Fisher was injured and taken off the field on a stretcher.

From Tim Maklem of Williamsburg, who received information from Fisher’s mom, and forwarded it to the News Journal via the X app, Brody has two compression fractures in his Thoracis spine. Treatment will be immobilize with a brace and rest. He will be back to normal very soon. Thank you for your prayers.
