Last Saturday, supporters of Ukraine and her people continued the weekly standouts, in downtown Wilmington, that began in February 2022, following Russia’s invasion. Representatives from Wilmington and Merefa, Ukraine, exchanged visits following the establishment of their Sister City relationship, in 2013. In March 2022, Merefa officials notified friends in Wilmington that Russian missiles had destroyed Merefa’s school, which prompted the establishment of the Sister City Fund. To date, the fund has sent $47,650 in private donations to support distribution of humanitarian aid. The Saturday noon standouts, at the corner of Locust and South Streets, are open to the public.
