WILMINGTON, Ohio — The Clinton County History Center is proud to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious Ohio Local History Alliance (OLHA) Outstanding Achievement Award in the category of Exhibits or Displays, according to a news release.

The museum’s current exhibit, “Beyond The Scoreboard: An Exhibit Celebrating Clinton County Sports Throughout The Years,” was one of only 13 selected for this statewide honor, recognizing the Center’s exceptional work in preserving and showcasing local history.

The award was presented to History Center Executive Director Shelby Boatman during the OLHA Annual Meeting Awards luncheon on Saturday, Oct. 5, in Columbus. This accolade highlights the Center’s commitment to excellence in public history, community engagement, and innovative storytelling.

To qualify for this award, exhibits are judged based on a series of strict criteria, including historical significance, factual and contextual accuracy, organization, design, and overall visual appeal. Additionally, the exhibit must present a clear and understandable narrative that can engage diverse audiences. As part of the evaluation process, the History Center provided photographs, a detailed physical description of the exhibit, excerpts from the exhibit’s script, and sample museum labels.

“We are incredibly honored to receive this award,” said Boatman. “Our Beyond The Scoreboard exhibit was created with the community in mind, to showcase the incredible athletic achievements that have shaped our county’s history. We share this award with News Journal Sports Editor, Mark Huber, who assisted in its development and all those who loaned or donated sports memorabilia for the exhibit. We’re thrilled that the Ohio Local History Alliance has recognized our hard work.”

The Beyond The Scoreboard exhibit, which runs through late December 2024, features a variety of sports memorabilia, photographs, and stories that span Clinton County’s athletic history, with special sections on football, baseball, basketball, and more. The exhibit proudly brings the county’s sports legacy to life, offering visitors a chance to engage with the history that has left a lasting impact on the community.

The Ohio Local History Alliance’s annual Outstanding Achievement Awards recognizes individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to the promotion and preservation of local history in Ohio. The Clinton County History Center’s award underscores its role as a leading institution in the local historical community, and its continued efforts to engage the public through dynamic exhibits and programs, according to the release.
