EC wraps up regular season at Yellow Springs Invitational

YELLOW SPRINGS — The East Clinton cross country teams concluded their regular season at the Young’s Dairy Invitational.

EC coach Josh Simmons said the meet was contested in chilly weather accompanied by rain and sleet.

The Astros varsity boys were ninth out of 25 teams.

Jackson Seabaugh was 44th in 17:36.6, a personal best time. Landen Kaun was 68th in 18:08.3, Dru Simmons 107th in 18:46 (PR), Luke Thompson 141st in 19:33.4, Eoin Hackmann 235th in 22:58 (PR), Elyon Hackmann 238 in 23:09 (PR), Jacob George 239th in 23:10.2, Colton Brockman 255th in 24:12.9, Ben Gates 257th in 24:14.9 and Wyatt Oberschlake 266th in 26:14 (PR).

Carman Brown was the only girl for EC in the varsity race, finishing in a personal best time of 26:00.4. Simmons said his was probably Brown’s final race as her marching band has a competition next weekend during the cross country district.

“I wish she could have run with us a few years sooner,” Simmons said. “I look forward to track season with her.”

Simmons also said it was the final meet for George and Elyon Hackmann. The coach said he has enjoyed coaching “these two amazing young gentlemen over the years.”

Despite the weather, the coach was pleased with his entire team.

“All of the Astros looked good. It was awesome to see five personal records given the conditions,” Simmons said. “Our top guys are really looking solid as we move toward the district meet.”

The Division III Southwest District meet will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Voice of America Park in West Chester.

In the middle school girls race, it was Ally George placing 52nd in 15:58.5 and was followed by Autumn Joseph 85th in 17:45.2.

In the middle school boys race, Carter Kaun was 62nd for East Clinton with a time of 14:26.4. Jaxson Manning was next in 64th place in 14:31.2. Owen Smith was 76th in 15:08.2.
