WESTERVILLE, Ohio – For the first time since the spring 2021 COVID season, the Wilmington College men’s soccer team knocked off the Otterbein University Cardinals 2-1 Wednesday night.

This gets the Quakers back in the win column after suffering their first loss of the season Saturday night at Mount Union. Wilmington is 10-1-3 overall.

Wilmington took the lead in the 19th minute on a crazy goal from freshman Parker Burke. He passed it to Jace Houck before making a move around his defender and getting the ball back from Houck. Burke then hit the ball with the bottom of his foot, where it had some English on it and beat the keeper to his left and curved back into the net for a 1-0 lead. It was Burke’s 19th goal of the season.

The Cardinals struck back in the 33rd minute and tied the game at 1-1 heading into the halftime locker room.

Neither team would score again until the 78th minute. Kaden Young tried to work around his defenders in the box before being tripped up, forcing a penalty kick. Young converted the kick for his 12th goal of the year and gave the Quakers a one-goal advantage. The Cardinals took four more shots for the remainder of the game but were unable to beat WC goalkeeper Oliver Metz.

The Quakers welcome the Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets to Townsend Field 7 p.m. Saturday night in Ohio Athletic Conference action.
