FAYETTEVILLE — On a penalty kick with just 20 seconds remaining in regulation, No. 3 seed Fayetteville-Perry defeated No. 4 seed Blanchester 1-0 Thursday night.

The matchup was a Division V South 1 Sectional contest at FPHS.

Blanchester has its season end with an 8-8-2 record. BHS won a combined nine games in the previous three seasons.

“It’s heartbreaking to lose on a penalty kick with 20 seconds left in the game, but I’m very proud of my team for the season they’ve had and the progress they’ve made,” Blanchester coach Kyle Hamilton said.

The Rockets will face Georgetown 7 p.m. Monday in the second round.

“Fayetteville is a well-rounded team that had us playing defense most of the game,” said Hamilton. “Shout out to our defense and keeper Karlee Tipton for a great game tonight.”

Tipton had 10 saves in goal for Blanchester.
