SABINA, Ohio – A three-vehicle accident involving a commercial vehicle caused significant traffic disruptions on US Route 22 in Sabina late Thursday morning.
The accident occurred around 10:30 a.m., blocking traffic in both directions and preventing vehicles from passing through the area for approximately an hour and a half.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident began when a Dodge 3500 “hotshot dually” truck—a heavy-duty vehicle often used for transporting time-sensitive loads—was traveling eastbound toward Route 72. The truck experienced a mechanical failure that caused one of its rear wheels to detach. The loose wheel struck both a dump truck and a Chevy Malibu, damaging the front of the sedan.
Emergency responders initially feared injuries; however, no major injuries were reported. The Ohio State Highway Patrol temporarily shut down US-22 to clear the vehicles, reopening it once the scene was cleared.
Citations were issued to the driver of the Dodge 3500 for operating an unsafe vehicle, as the wheel assembly showed signs of deterioration due to inadequate maintenance. The Ohio State Highway Patrol emphasized the importance of regular vehicle maintenance to prevent similar incidents in the future.
