‘Healthy Family Day’ at Farmers Market set for Saturday

WILMINGTON — The Clinton County Farmers’ Market will be holding the 2023 “Healthy Family Day” Saturday, June 17 as part of the regular market day.

The Market is bringing together county organizations and agencies to share with residents of Clinton County and surrounding communities the opportunities and resources that are available to assist all citizens in having a healthier life style and enriching their overall lives, according to a news release.

Clinton Memorial Hospital is the main sponsor of the day and will be holding a “free” health fair. CMH will offer free education, activities, screenings, and testing. There will be education available on nutrition, heart health, pain management, stroke, and colon health.

Stop by and see Cheyenne Gasaway, CNP and have her check your A1C, do a PSA test with Dr. Issa to screen for prostate cancer, or have a blood pressure screening by the Wilmington Fire Department. In addition, CMH staff will be doing Lipid panels (cholesterol) on the day of the market. You must fast for 12 hours prior to the blood work; if you are unable to fast that day, pick up a coupon to take to the hospital and receive a complimentary Lipid panel within two weeks of the market date.

Available will be “hands on” CPR on an “Annie” doll.

According to a hospital spokesperson, “Clinton Memorial Hospital’s mission is to make our community healthier and it has been providing quality healthcare to area residents for over 70 years. CMH is proud to be a supporter of the Clinton County Farmers Market and its mission to provide locally grown produce and products that are of high quality and affordable for all community members in Clinton County.”

Several other county agencies and organizations will be participating. Clinton County Health District will have information on all services provided to county residents, including updated vaccines, emergency assistance with certain medications, insurance for children with long-term health issues, and more. The Clinton County Women, Infant & Children (WIC) staff will be present to discuss eligibility for women and children and distribute WIC Farm Market vouchers for purchasing fresh produce.

Stop in at the Clinton County Youth Council booth to learn about this non-profit group, whose mission is to help youth make healthy choices by providing safe after-school shelter, mentoring, snacks and meals, academic support, and recreation opportunities for students in grades 6-12.

Clinton County Trails Coalition and Clinton County Park District will share information about the trails and parks in Clinton County as well as offer maps of all Clinton County Trails. The parks and trails are a great asset to the county to encourage active exercise whether by walking, running, biking, or enjoying being outside in nature.

HealthSource, a federally qualified health center located in eight counties (including Clinton), will be present to share information on free assistance for all Ohio residents applying for Medicaid, SNAP (food assistance), and Marketplace insurance coverage.

Zach Mcdaniel, prevention educator at Talbert House, serving Clinton County, will be present to provide information on the many mental health services available to county residents.

Flat Fork Ridge Massage Therapy with Brittney Smithson, LMT, will be offering chair massage by donation and discussing the benefits of medical massage for overall health and wellness.

Clinton County Workforce Collaborative will be on hand to provide information on the Clinton County Child Care Guide as part of the effort of assistance to citizens and employers.

The Clinton County Farmers Market hopes that citizens of Wilmington and all of Clinton County will take advantage of the opportunity to learn about the resources available to assist all citizens in having a healthier life style and enriching their overall lives.
