BLANCHESTER — After a slow start to the thrilling fifth set, Blanchester rallied to defeat Fayetteville 19-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 15-12 Saturday in a non-league volleyball marathon.
“Both teams played amazing,” BHS coach Shelbie Rose said. “Shout out to Fayetteville’s defense. It was hard to get a ball to drop for us.”
Fayetteville led 5-0 in the fifth set before Blanchester pulled within three. Jade Jackson served five points to put the Wildcats up 10-8 then Jocelyn Lansing closed it out with a pair of service points and the win.
Coach Rose commended the serving of Maddie Winemiller (team-high eight aces), Audri Byrom and Jade Jackson.
Lansing led the Wildcats defense and keyed the offensive attack with 72 passes in the five sets. She also led with 19 digs.
Emma Hartmann led the charge at the net for BHS with 14 kills and six blocks. Jackson had 28 set assists.
