LEES CREEK — In a battle of the top two teams in the SBAAC National Division, East Clinton defeated Williamsburg Tuesday night in a thriller 25-23, 25-14, 26-24.
The Astros lead the league at 6-0 while the Wildcats fall to 5-1. The two teams have been at the top of the National Division since 2015. East Clinton ended Williamsburg’s six-year run as league champs by claiming the title in 2021. They shared the crown in 2022 and then Williamsburg moved back on top in 2023.
“I am so proud of the entire Astro family,” East Clinton coach Sarah Sodini said. “We had a great turn out for the game. The girls played well and felt supported. It was an awesome evening.”
East Clinton has won seven matches in a row. Williamsburg has lost two straight.
Sodini said the East Clinton back row played well in the match.
EC had 31 kills at the net but it was a strong all-around effort with Sahara Tate recording nine, Karsyn Jamison eight, Colie Murarescu seven and Makayla Seaman six.
Emily Arnold had 26 assists and the Astros posted 14 service aces. East Clinton had 53 digs, led by Kaylee Terrell with 11 and Tate with 10. Also, Taylor Barton had eight digs and Hadlie Clark finished with seven.
In the passing department, Tate and Terrell combined for 70 passes on the night.
