WILMINGTON — After a seven match losing streak, the Wilmington High School volleyball team has quietly been on a run lately.
WHS has four four of its last five, including Tuesday night’s thrilling 25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 22-25, 15-12 slugfest victory over Western Brown at Fred Summers Court.
“Played well sets 1 and 2 and then we jump out to a 6-8 point lead in sets 3 and 4 … and couldn’t hang on to finish,” WHS coach Stephanie Reveal said.
In the decisive set, though, Wilmington started fast and finished strong to secure the victory.
“I am so proud of them for finishing and believing in themselves and their teammates,” said Reveal. “It wasn’t just the girls on the court, our bench stepped up big and played a huge factor in keeping the momentum.”
The Hurricane is 7-9 overall and 3-5 in the division. The Broncos and Goshen Warriors also are 3-5 in league play.
WHS had 65 kills with Lauren Diels leading the with 18 and Miya Nance just behind with 17. Lilly Trentman added 14 and Aunestie Hudson came off the bench with 10.
Aidynne Tippett had 51 set assists while Layla Reynolds had 40 digs and 24 passes on the night.
